MYSORE: Due to objections raised by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) regarding the availability of one-day crawl for eight tigers, the authorities of Mysore Zoo will add one more.Another day crawl will give the big cats more time to roam around in the open space.Zoo Authority Chairman Nanjundaswamy told Express that the CZA team during its last visit to the zoo had pointed out that confinement in enclosures stresses the big cats and affects their digestion system. They also said that allowing visitors close to the enclosures where the big cats feed on raw meat is an unpleasant sight, especially for vegetarians.Nanjundaswamy added another day crawl may be constructed on the space available towards the eastern side of the existing one.“The flower pots and other materials stacked in the one acre plot is being moved to the Karanji Lake to make way for the day crawl.A tree on the fringe of the day crawl was felled to prevent tigers from jumping outside with its help,” he said, adding that after the completion of day crawl, elephants would be let in once in two days.“Tigers are fed on raw beef which is not easy to digest.Hence they need more exercise and allowing them to more time in the open is the only option we have to keep them fit.The work costs Rs 5 lakh and will be completed within a month,” he said.“The team observed it was unpleasant for visitors to see tigers eating raw meat and smell excreta.Hence they suggested to close the road that leads to tiger enclosures,” he said.
