ATHGARH: With the Athgarh by-poll scheduled for Sunday, the local administration is bracing up for a peaceful election. At least 20 platoons of police force and 80 police officers have been deployed in the constituency whose strength may further be enhanced as per requirement, said SDPO PK Jena. With an aim to educate voters on the use of EVMs, an awareness van was pressed into service. A keen contest is on the cards between Congress and BJD candidates who have played magic game with issues like development and safety to the people of Athgarh. On the last day of campaigning on Friday, Suresh Mohapatra of Congress held a huge meeting at the old bus stand with Central leader Jagdish Tytler, OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik and other top leaders of the State present. They questioned Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the quantum of development. Niranjan said if Athgarh will be no.1, then where does Hinjili, the Chief Minister’s home constituency, stand. He criticised Naveen calling him a liar and said the State Government cheated Odisha people in providing subsidised rice. He called upon the people to boycott Naveen and his candidate. Tytler in his short speech said Ranendra has not brought any exemplary development in his 20 years as a representative of the area. On the other hand, BJP candidate Bikram Dash with its star campaigners Jual Oram, Sanjita Mohanty and Nayan Mohanty campaigned in Athgarh NAC and GP areas. BJD also campaigned with Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patsani and other ministers.
