India is witnessing a massive surge in the temperature with the capital New Delhi recording a temperature of 52.9 degrees Celsius. According to Local 18 Bengali, one of the best ways to curb these high temperatures is to have houseplants to keep the home cool. According to the Indoor plant expert Chinmoy Saha, three prominent types of these plants are the snake plant, rubber trees and the money plant. Saha said, “Keeping plants inside the house does not only keep the house cool through natural processes, they also increase the humidity in the indoor air. First, among these plants comes the snake plant which helps to increase the oxygen level in the house. It also helps in keeping the air pollution-free. This plant has high water content and because of that, cold air is emitted from it instead of heat waves. It also leads to the increase of humidity quotient in air.”
Talking about the rubber trees, Saha said that they absorb enormous amounts of carbon dioxide from the environment. It is beneficial to a great extent because excessive carbon dioxide can retain heat for a long time. As a result, if the amount of carbon dioxide in the house increases, the temperature in the house increases quickly. Therefore, the rubber plants are extremely useful in maintaining the oxygen and heat levels of the room.
The indoor plant expert also talked about the benefits of the Money plant and said that it is very effective in purifying the air. It is because they remove multiple toxins from the air and maintain its freshness which keeps it cold. If there is no shortage of space at home, you can keep Areca palms in the living room. These palms are tall, attractive, clumping palms with smooth, sometimes golden trunks that are reminiscent of bamboo clumps. Areca palms always keeps the houses, hotels, offices and other open spaces cool. These plants are also used to decorate the avenues. There are some problems with these plants as well. Areca palms are prone to attack by red spider mites and mealybugs (common pests of houseplants).
