GULBARGA:  Students at Hullur village of Jewargi taluk in the district locked their classrooms on Thursday and protested in front of the school demanding their teachers' mass transfer.
Of the seven teachers at the Higher Primary School, four travel to and from Afzalpur and three others, including headmaster Malingaraya, live in Hullur. The students, who started boycotting school from Thursday, alleged that teachers were irregular and hold classes just twice a week. The parents of the students, who also joined the protest, alleged that students studying in 7th standard cannot even write the Kannada alphabet. Students also told reporters that at times teachers stay back in school at night and consume meat and alcohol. They then ask students to clean up the mess, the pupils alleged.

The students said that though they had complained to officers about the attitude of the teachers and sought their transfer, the department has not heeded to their request. Hence, the students had now decided to boycott school till the department transferred the teachers.

When contacted, DDPI Paramesh confirmed receiving a complaint but said mass transfers will not be possible since they are effected only through counselling. However, he said the BEO, who will visit the school, will get the names of the teachers with whom the students are not happy and take suitable action.

What's your reaction?
