Trash row continues as garbage piles up in town

PUDUCHERRY: The imbroglio over solid waste management (SWM) between the government and Puducherry Municipal services Private Limited continued  for the fourth day on Thursday leaving garbage uncleared in several places including the town area.The government’s plan to reduce the tipping rates (charges for clearance, transportation and disposal of garbage) by implementing the recommendations  and making payment on the basis of those rates has also met with failure.   Justice K Chandru of the Madras High Court,  hearing a petition filed by Kivar Environ  directed the government against the implementation of any recommendations which were adverse to any clause in the agreement entered into between the government and PMSPL till June 11 and directed the government to file the counter during this period.Sources said that some negotiations were going on between the government and Kivar Environ. The Kivar Environ is expecting at least a part of the payment of their dues as per the agreement for resuming the work.  On the other hand, the government maintains that it has already given `19 crore as capital even before work was commenced and now till a new agreement is worked out, PMSPL should continue the operations.
