New Delhi: Cracking the whip, Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi has removed SK Vasishtha as the Managing Director of RailTel, a subsidiary of the Ministry, on the charge of "non-performance".
"SK Vasishta, has been removed from the MD post and Project Director Rajiv Sinha, who is the senior most in the RailTel Corporation of India, has been asked look after the charge till the appointment of a new MD," top sources in Railway Ministry said.
Vasishta, who became the MD of the RailTel in July 2007, was to retire in September.
"He was asked to go on leave yesterday," the sources said adding the "Minister reviewed the performance of the PSU and found it in wanting."
RailTel was formed in September 2000 with the objective of creating a nation-wide broadband, telecom and multimedia network, to modernise train control operation and safety system of the Railways.
RailTel, which has a target of earning Rs 515 crore revenue in the current fiscal, is unlikely to achieve it.
RailTel has rolled out a robust high-speed OFC (optical fibre cable) network covering about 32,000 km.
