MULANTHURUTHY: The heat and dust over the Sindhu Joy episode continued for another day with UDF leaders lashing out at Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan for his alleged derogatory remarks. Defence Minister A K Antony on Tuesday said, “A leader like Achuthanandan, who is a doyen of politics, should mind his words. He needs to be careful while using words.”“Achuthanandan is the senior-most leader in the state. Being a former chief minister, he should control his language,” Antony said. Addressing the meeting, Sindhu Joy demanded his removal from the post of Opposition Leader. She asked if he had been made Opposition Leader only to make such adverse remarks. Achuthanandan’s remarks were an attack on the entire women community in Kerala. “I do not think it was a slip of the tongue.” Achuthanandan purposefully unleashed the controversy to deviate public attention from the land-allotment case and the case against his son Arun Kumar, she said.Finance Minister K M Mani urged the woman voters in Piravom to give a fitting reply to the LDF on March 17 for insulting women. “He was the chief minister of the state and now Opposition Leader. It is not fit for a person like him to make a comment in that tone. It does not fit a gentleman.” Socialist Janata Democratic leader M P Veerendra Kumar demanded that Achuthanandan should have apologised for his remarks. “I respect Achuthanandan. He should not have said so.”
