Battered by the unending row and political twists over the Nelliampathy estates’ issue, the UDF leadership will meet here next Monday to discuss the issue and set the record straight.
The UDF is already in a soup with Kerala Congress strongman and Government Chief Whip P C George’s remarks on the issue leading to a band of Young Turks among Congress MLAs taking on him, and M M Hassan, Congress leader and convenor of the UDF sub-committee constituted to study the Nelliampathy issue, resigning from the post the other day.
Hassan’s stand was in protest against ‘’parallel evidence collection’’ by a team of MLAs, which he described as an act which had eroded the credibility of the UDF itself and was tantamount to total indiscipline and violation of basic tenets of coalition politics.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala and UDF convenor P P Thankachan as well as UDF coalition partners are keen to resolve the issue at the earliest and end the discord in the front, for which, informal discussions are already on.
Meanwhile, there is no end to the controversy with the high power committee of the Kerala Congress(M) making it clear that the interests of all genuine farmers will have to be protected.
