HYDERABAD: Senior IPS officer Umesh Kumar has denied any wrong-doing in regard to acquisition of plots by him and his family members as members of the Greyhounds Employees Mutually Aided Cooperative Society.Reacting to a report published in these columns on a complaint lodged with the AP State Cooperative Union against him, Umesh Kumar has said the “whole exercise undertaken by the police department is not only biased but mischievous in which facts are twisted, ignored and falsely interpolated for getting some action initiated.”The complaint was that Umesh and his family members, including his wife, bought four plots in the layout developed by the society and that was in contravention of rules governing the Mutually Aided Cooperative Society Act.Umesh contends that Section 4 of the Act relates only to registration of a society under which “not fewer than ten individuals, each being a member of a different family, intend to form a society.”According to him, this requirement is not for membership (by which plots are allotted) which is governed by the bye-laws of the society. In many cases, members from the same family were given membership as the society required funds for payment to private owners from whom the land was purchased and also to meet the cost of development. The IPS officer also claims that details of all the immovable property held by him have been given to the government.
