BHUBANESWAR: Staff of Union Bank of India staged a day-long dharna in the State on Monday to protest outsourcing of jobs by the bank’s management. The management has decided to outsource housekeeping jobs of its training centre to contractors. Due to this, eight permanent posts will be terminated in the category. The outsourcing agencies and the private companies will reap huge benefits from this but the security of the bank will be seriously compromised, the staff alleged. The All India Industry Level Settlement of banking sector has no such provision for outsourcing any regular job in any bank. But the managements of some banks are contemplating to implement the strategy to destabilise the organised workforce of the banks and exploit staff, they said. If this scheme is implemented, then it will open up private jobs in banks, breaching the internal security. Sudhansu Panda, president of All Orissa Union Bank Employees’ Association and Pradeep Sarangi, general secretary, addressed the dharna here.
