THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mass disciplinary action against party cadres in some parts of the state has created unrest among the VS supporters in the CPM ahead of the party organisational polls.Following the actions in Kasargod, Malappuram and Thrissur, the CPM leadership has brandished the sword of discipline against 120 workers at Parassala. Foreseeing a similar move, 185 party members quit the CPM in Venjarammoodu in the district the other day.Though it was pro-VS demonstrations which led to disciplinary action in Kasargod, Malappuram and Thrissur, the reasons for such action in the Thiruvananthapuram district are different. However, the VS group members are at the receiving end here also. The unexpected defeat of CPM candidate Anavur Nagappan at Parassala in the last Assembly elections has resulted in the CPM district committee’s decision to seek explanation from 120 party workers of the area, including Neyyattinkara MLA R Selvaraj.Sources said Nagappan had alleged in a complaint to the state leadership that he suspected a sabotage by Selvaraj and his team. Selvaraj, who had represented Parassala in the last term, had to surrender his sitting seat to Nagappan and move to neighbouring Neyyattinkara.“The decision of the Thiruvananthapuram district committee is against the members of a prominent community in the south. Almost all who are facing disciplinary action belong to that community and it will only damage the prospects of the party in the long run,’’ said a CPM leader in the district. The Nadar community, among which the CPM has a considerable say, is learnt to be agitated over the recent move. Years ago, the CPM had expelled another prominent Nadar leader M Sathyanesan from the party following allegations of corruption. At Venjarammoodu, a local committee secretary has declared war against the party. The Onchiyam-model revolt shocked the party and efforts are on to woo back the party members who had gone out along with local committee secretary A M Rayce. At a press conference held here the other day, Rayce paraded several local leaders, including Nellanad panchayat president Anitha Mahesh. Nine local committee members and 10 branch secretaries have left the party at Venjarammoodu alleging move by the Pinarayi group to sideline them.Rayce told reporters that he and other comrades were targeted by Venjarammoodu MLA Koliyakode Krishnan Nair and other Pinarayi group leaders. He even alleged that show cause notices were issued to those who attended a function inaugurated by VS.At Parassala also, most of the comrades who are facing disciplinary action are VS sympathisers. “It remains to be seen whether VS, who came out in the open against the party action against pro-VS demonstrators in Kanhangad, will do anything to save his followers at Parassala and Venjarammoodu,’’ a leader said.
