New Delhi: As the protests by Union Public Service Commission Civil Service aspirants turned violent on Wednesday night at Mukherjee Nagar in the national capital, the police force took some measures so as to avoid any unfortunate incident.
A senior police official on the condition of anonymity said that only preventive measures are being taken. "There is no Section 144 imposed in the area but no group will be allowed to protest here or nearby areas."
The police have placed barricades in the area and stage where the protesting aspirants used to gather has been removed. Heavy security is also in place.
"There has been loss of property as one DTC bus and vehicles of the local residents were damaged. There has been no loss of life," he added.
Shopkeepers have also shut their shop as there are apprehensions that aspirants may protest again today and it may turn ugly.
Aspirants had turned violent on Wednesday night. They blocked all roads leading to the protest site at Mukherjee Nagar and pelted stones on the police force which put up more barricades and stopped vehicles from going near the protest site.
What was once a busy place with students protesting and putting forward their demands of scrapping Civil Service Aptitude Test now lies desolate.
