BANGALORE: The Opposition members in the Legislative Council on Thursday demanded the State government to monitor the business of choultries located on the Palace Grounds while accusing large scale irregularities in the running of these choultries. The issue was raised during the Question Hour by the Opposition members who accused the owners of Palace Grounds of running several choultries without permission from the government, besides renting them on exorbitant rates. They also highlighted the traffic problems being caused by choultries on the stretch from Mekhri Circle to BDA Junction. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, in his reply, said that the government has no power to fix the rent of the choultries, but expressed his readiness for an enquiry into the alleged connivance of government officials with the Palace Grounds owners. On traffic problems, the chief minister said that the State government would be widening roads adjacent to the Palace Grounds. “The government has released `8 crore for the purpose,” he noted.Of the 17 ongoing infrastructure projects in city taken up at a cost of Rs 365 crore, three underpasses being built at Kadirenahalli Cross, C N R Rao and Tagore circles will be completed by March 2012, Chief Minister D V Sadananda told the Council. Replying to a question asked by BJP member Srinath, the CM admitted the delay being caused in the implementation of infrastructure projects.“Problems in land acquisition, awarding TDR and other issues are causing delay. But the government is committed to solve them and speed up the pace of works,” he said.
