Bangalore: While the wait for Kamal Haasan's 'Vishwaroopam II' grows indomitably, his ambitious next 'Uttama Villain', directed by his friend Ramesh Aravind is hitting the screens sooner than we thought it would.
Our first take: the trailer for 'Uttama Villain' is refreshing. Having said that we're still not sure whether Kamal is a misunderstood hero, or is he really playing the villain, as he proclaims.
Watching the trailer is like walking into a multi-cuisine restaurant. Kamal is everywhere -- in identifiable yet wholly different personas. He plays a revered actor and a Theyyam artiste in the film. He is joined by some equally capable actors - Jayaram, Urvashi, Andrea Jeremiah, Pooja Kumar, Nassar and MS Bhaskar. Ghibran's music is pleasing and fits well with the colouful trailer.
K Viswanath makes an appearance in the film, and so does Kamal's guru, the revered filmmaker K Balachander. We, for one, are sure that whatever the box-office collection of 'Uttama Villain' turns out to be, this film will definitely go down in the history of Indian cinema as Kamal's salutation to his mentor.
According to reports, 'Uttama Villain' is the story of an ageing superstar, played by Kamal, who has also penned the story of the film. He will feature in a double role in the film as an eighth century artiste and a 21st century film star.
