Kanpur: A 45-year-old man has allegedly committed suicide following an allegation that his son tried to poison a dalit girl in Bilhaur area, police said on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Idris, hanged himself at his home last night, a police spokesperson said. Family of the 19-year-old girl has submitted a written complaint to the police alleging that five days ago Idris' son entered their house and poisoned her, the spokesperson said, adding, the victim's son is on the run since the incident.
Police however, suspecting this to be case of love affair are waiting for the girl to gain consciousness and record her statements before taking any action. The girl is recovering at the Hallett Hospital.
The victim's body has been sent for postmortem and an investigation is on in this entire sequence of events, police said.
