The vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) officials, on Thursday, conducted raids on the houses of doctors of Kottayam Medical College Hospital (MCH) on the basis of the complaints over government doctors conducting private medical practice becoming rampant in the district.
Houses of around 15 doctors who predominantly hail from Kanjirappally, Kottayam and Ettumanoor were examined by the VACB officials and found that eight doctors of general medicine, orthopaedic, urology and gynaecology were conducting private practices. However, the officials have not disclosed the names of these doctors.
The raid was conducted following the special directions from Vigilance Director Venugopal K Nair. The team of officials led by Vigilance DySPs A C Joseph, Muhammed Kebir Ravuthar, CIs Manojkumar, Girish P Sarathy and Santhosh Kumar formed five squads and conducted the raids. However, three doctors who got the information about the raid evaded from it, said a higher officials in VACB.
