For the second consecutive day on Friday, tension prevailed on the Osmania University campus when a mock funeral procession of Telangana ministers taken out by students protesting against the ministers’ attitude in obtaining permission for the Telangana march turned violent after students threw stones at the police forces.
The police prevented them from taking out the rally to Gandhi Bhavan. At least seven rounds of tear gas shells were lobbed to disperse the students. However, no one was injured in the incident. At around 11.30 am, over 150 students shouting slogans took out the mock funeral procession from the Arts college.
As the rally reached the NCC gate, the police closed the main gates of Tarnaka-OU campus stretch and stopped students saying that restrictions were in force and there was no permission for the rally.
Police warned the students to disperse and made repeated announcements on loud speakers but students refused to comply and started hurling stones on the police.
Police responded by lobbying tear gas shells and dispersed the student mob.
