New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday talked tough with the police forces, telling top officers they needed to gather actionable intelligence and act in a manner that does not damage their image among the people.
Manmohan Singh was convening a meeting with the Director Generals and Inspector Generals of the various state police in New Delhi to review the counter-terrorism systems in place.
He said that the police and other agencies needed to be more active in intelligence gathering, to prevent terror attacks of the sort that have hit the country in recent times.
“The police need to demonstrate greater strength in their response capacity. The inability of intelligence agencies and police at gathering accurate and actionable intelligence has enabled these groups to carry out certain high profile attacks,” he said.
The Prime Minister also suggested setting up task force to develop within 100 days an integrated capability to address emerging challenges in areas on left-wing extremism, terrorism and insurgency.
“The virus of communal violence that threatens the secular fabric of our country needs to be checked in time”, he said.
