Gurgaon: Assuring women of their safety following the gang rape of a woman pub employee, the Gurgaon police Thursday said that women can work at any time and even during night shifts without fear.

Police Commissioner KK Sindhu, announcing this, issued directions to employers in the national capital's satellite town that they must provide transport facility to women employees who work late night shifts in accordance with the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishment Act.

To sort out the complaints against harassment of women, the Gurgaon police have started a dedicated helpline for victims. The helpline - 0124-2335100 - will remain operational 24x7.

Sindhu said the Gurgaon Police is committed to providing security to all citizens, especially women.

On Thursday, he discussed the law and order situation with district administration in his office. In the presence of Deputy Commissioner PC Meena, Sindhu said the district administration and police are providing full security to women and women can work at any time, even during night shifts without fear.

He said that after the Monday incident of gang rape of a pub employee, he reviewed the security on the MG (Mehrauli-Gurgaon) Road with concerned police officers and a number of measures have been taken to create a safe and secure atmosphere there.

According to Sindhu, an additional picket has been set up on MG Road and the number of women police personnel has been doubled. He said that four Police Control Room vans and four motorbike riders have been deployed on one and half kilometre stretch of MG Road. Besides, an additional all-woman PCR exclusively for women has been deputed there.

The district administration has also decided to constitute a Task Force Committee (TSC) that will meet regularly to review safety of women in Gurgaon and give suggestions to the district authorities. The TSC will include DCP of the area, concerned Deputy Labour Commissioner, DETC (Excise), representatives of leading NGO working in the field of women's welfare and representatives of three largest employers of the district.
