BHUBANESWAR: Xpressions 2011 was launched by the traditional burning of a wooden X inside in Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. The dean of the institute, Father P D Thomas lighted the wooden X in the presence of the faculty members and students. This has been the tradition for the past 13 years, for Xpressions launch. Xpresions is considered to be the biggest B-School event in Eastern India. The theme for this year’s fest is Iridence, the colour reflections. With more than 50 events scheduled to take place, this year’s fest will be bigger than ever. Participants from 70 B-schools across the country will participate. The main attraction of the event will be Gladiator, an event that will put to test the managerial and interpersonal skills. Kurukshetra, a game with a history of its own, is based on business strategy and decision-making skills. Helios, the only management game that allows undergraduates to participate will keep the participants engaged for three days. Decibelz, a cultural event, in which 70 rock bands from all over India competed, but only seven reached the finals, will keep the participants engaged. Vishal Jaisingh, will be the judge. A band from Orissa has been waitlisted and will participate if any finalist team drops out. “We are expecting 30,000 people to attend the event,” said Akankshit, one of the organisers. There will be Carnival De Vogue, the fashion show which will be judged by Harihar Das and Minati Sabat. Many new events have been introduced this time like face painting and quiz competitions. Inquizzitive, the quiz competition, will see corporates as well as students participating in it. CeleblitZ, the star night, will see Lucky Ali performing for the crowd with his complete band. Many informal event like Thirkan, Goonj and Nukkad wil keep the participants engaged. “This fest will be a cultural experience for us and we will also get to know the backhand work experience,” said Jyoti Prakash, another organiser.
