It is never safe for women – to be visiting liquor stores all by themselves and getting their hands on alcohol, irrespective of the city they dwell in. Since many feel buying alcohol is essentially a man’s prerogative, woman who tries to do it – is stared at, earns unwanted male attention, judged, and even referred to as ‘too modern’ and ‘too bold’.
While the level of discomfort remains the same geographically (in India), women in Delhi have a reason to rejoice. For Star City Mall in East Delhi, adjacent to DLF The Galleria is attracting several female customers, courtesy the newly-opened liquor store.
Tucked away in the ground floor of the mall, the store looks both comfortable and stylish. And to ensure no male guest (ever) enters the section meant for their female counterparts, there is a huge pink hoarding that reads, “Exclusive section only for ladies”. Opened in October, the store offers its guests a huge variety of alcohol.
