Expert Says These Over-Hyped Products Must Be Eliminated From Skincare Routine

Skincare is crucial for both men and women. Not taking care of your skin can lead to skin problems like signs of ageing, uneven skin tone and fine lines at an early age. We use a variety of products in our day-to-day life to shield our skin from harm, but at times certain formulations are just not right for us.

Dr Aarthi, a consultant dermatologist, recently shared a post on her Instagram handle, discussing skincare products like charcoal, acne wipes, scrubs and topical tranexamic acid, which are overhyped but are not very effective.

Activated Charcoal: As per the expert, despite the fact that charcoal helps in clearing the skin by eliminating oil, debris and dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, it isn’t actually good. “Your skin can get worse after you use charcoal products, some masks and face washes can cause dryness and hyperpigmentation. Your acne can also return with a vengeance,” claims the dermatologist.

Acne wipes: As per Dr Aarthi, if you are someone who is undergoing laser treatment then acne wipes are not for you. People who are not undergoing any treatment are also recommended not to use wipes as according to the expert, “Some wipes can create rash and even pustules in the skin that can look like acne but are really an irritant reaction to some of the chemicals in the wipes.”

Scrubs: According to the dermatologist, scrubs tend to alter the pH and if overdone then it can lead to “acute irritation and irritant contact dermatitis and pustular acne.”

Topical Tranexamic Acid: The doctor says she prefers to use oral tranexamic acid since it treats pigmentation the best but thinks topical creams are overrated as she didn’t see much of a difference using them.
