Lucknow Super Giants, who are yet to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) title, have retained their star players, who performed well for them in the past season, ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.
Gautam Gambhir’s departure will be a big blow but the players themselves who have been the star performers for them have been kept in the side. Andy Flower too departed from the role of head coach.
But, former Australian head coach Justin Langer has been brought in to lead the team to the promised land, as LSG would be hoping that third time’s the charm.
LSG have already traded Avesh Khan for Devdutt Padikkal from Royal Challengers Bangalore, the first trade ahead of the start of the season.
LSG also released the likes of Romario Shepard to Mumbai Indians.
Key players like KL Rahul, De Kock, Deepak Hooda, Badoni, Manan Vohra, Marcus Stonis, Krunal Pandya, Kyle Mayers, Mark Wood and Ravi Bishnoi find their names in the retained list.
Older stalwarts like Jaydev Unadkat who had a poor season this past campaign, have been released.
The overall plan seems to have been to retain a majority of the squad altogether and to run it back, as LSG would be looking forward to break new ground and finally get their hands on the coveted trophy that has eluded them the last two seasons.
The IPL 2024 auction will be held place in the United Arab Emirates on December 19, 2023, which is the first time it is being held outside India.
