Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s transition from a lover boy on screen to a larger-than-life tough action hero started with the 2009 film Wanted. Most of his films following this were of the action genre and were successful at the box office. The actor’s first film that entered the Rs 200 crore club was the Sajid Nadiadwala-directed Kick. The movie was the debut directorial venture of producer Sajid Nadiadwala and the film clicked for him, even earning him the prestigious IIFA Award for Best Debut Director. Having hit theatres on July 25, 2014, Kick completed a decade of its release yesterday.
Kick was a massive box-office hit, becoming one of the top-grossing Bollywood films of its era. Its impressive earnings shattered several records, raking in over Rs 400 crore globally. Salman Khan’s remarkable performance in the movie only solidified his status as the industry’s leading superstar. Kick also starred Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda, Mithun Chakroborty and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in pivotal roles. In the film, Salman Khan plays an outlaw named Devil who steals from the rich and corrupted to fend for orphaned children. Randeep Hooda plays a cop, who is in pursuit of the Devil. Nawazuddin plays the main antagonist.
Parts of the film were also shot in foreign locales. In September 2011, Nadiadwala and his team travelled to South Korea at the invitation of the Korea Tourism Organisation, where they signed a deal to film parts of this project and other films in the country. Filming for the movie commenced on July 27, 2013, in Scotland, where Khan filmed scenes involving a car crash and a helicopter crash in Glasgow. Kick was received well critically too. Songs like Hangover and Jumme Ki Raat became chartbusters. A sequel titled Kick 2 was announced and is in development.
Salman Khan will soon be seen in Sikander, directed by AR Murgadoss and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.
