Films with mythological concepts have been a favourite of the audience for as long as cinema has existed in our country. In the past few months, there have been a range of successful films with the concept, especially in Tollywood. Here is a list of some of the mythological-based superhits given by the industry in the recent past, including some highly anticipated projects.
Kalki 2898 AD:
The Prabhas-starrer was released last month amidst a lot of expectations and enthusiasm. Going by its reception and box-office collections, it’s safe to say the film became a blockbuster hit in days of its release. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film also includes Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani in notable roles.
HanuMan:
Released earlier this year, HanuMan became one of the biggest Indian films of the year. The film stars Teja Sajja, Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Samuthirakani, Vinay Rai and Vennela Kishore. It is made under the direction of Prasanth Varma. It is inspired by the story of Lord Hanuman and how a young boy wields his strength to save others.
Akhanda 2:
The film is a sequel to the 2021 superhit Akhanda, which starred Nandamuri Balakrishna as the lead. The yet-to-be released project is being helmed by Anil Ravipudi, who has also penned the project and Harish Peddi is the producer. It also includes names like S J Suryah, Jagapathi Babu, Kavya Thapar, Pragya Jaiswal and others. As per the reports, the film could hit the theatres this year.
Vishwambhara:
Dubbed as a fantasy, megastar Chiranjeevi is set to portray the role of Dorababu in this upcoming release. The film is being directed by Mallidi Vassishta, who is also credited as its writer. The rest of the cast includes Trisha Krishnan, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Surbhi Puranik, Harsha Vardhan among many others. It is produced by V Vamsi Krishna Reddy, Pramod Uppalapati and Vikram Reddy under the banner of UV Creations. The film is expected to release in January next year.
