The much-awaited Tamil film Thangalaan, starring superstar Chiyaan Vikram and directed by Pa Ranjith, is set to release on August 15. The advanced booking for the film began this Sunday in Kerala. The film is being distributed in the state by Gokulam Gopalan’s Sree Gokulam movies. Due to the recent landslide in the Wayanad area, Kerala promotions for Thangalaan were cancelled. Sree Gokulam Movies, in collaboration with Studio Green, announced that the funds billed for the promotion would be donated to the Chief Minister’s relief fund. The makers of the film are promoting Thangalaan in Tamil and Telugu extensively ahead of the release. Vikram is ready to show his extraordinary performance in this highly anticipated film. The theatrical trailer, which garnered significant buzz upon its release, has sparked the excitement surrounding the movie. According to an official statement, advance bookings for the Tamil version of Thangalaan opened on August 10.
Thangalaan is based on true events that revolve around the lives of mine workers in the Kolar Gold fields of Karnataka during the pre-independence time. The film features Chiyaan Vikram and Malavika Mohanan as main lead roles. The movie also features actors Parvathy Thiruvothu, Daniel Caltagirone, Hari Krishnan Anbudurai, Vettai Muthukumar, and Krish Hassan in supporting roles.
National Award winner GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music for the film, with cinematography by A Kishor Kumar and editing by Seva RK, art direction by SS Murthy, and stunts choreographed by Stunner Sam. The distribution partner for the film is Dream Big Films, with PRO handled by Sabari. According to reports, the period action drama was made on a staggering budget of Rs 100 – 150 crore.
Even though the film’s theatrical release date has been confirmed, fans are eagerly waiting for its online release. Thangalaan is set to stream on Netflix, which has been announced as the official OTT platform of the film, but a premiere date is yet to be revealed.
