Ten years ago, Zoya Akhtar made a buddy road comedy drama called Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which went on to gain a cult following. Starring Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar in the male protagonists, the film had Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin play the female leads. The latest buzz is that ZNMD 2.0 is in the offing and this time, with an all-female cast.
According to Pinkvilla, Zoya’s brother Farhan who starred in the 2011 film will take the director’s chair for the upcoming film. A source close to the development told the portal that both the siblings are writing the yet untitled film together.
While the concept of road trip will remain the same, the narrative is expected to be diametrically different from what was done in the 2011 film. Zoya and Farhan locked the broad idea of the new story through the lockdown and will take in on floors sometime next year.
As the premise of the upcoming film requires three female protagonists, Farhan is planning to rope in Alia Bhatt as one of them. The source revealed that a probable collaboration with Alia has been discussed by Farhan and that the actress is already excited to join the cast. Two more A-list actresses in addition to Alia are expected to be associated with the gang.
More meetings in the coming months will decide the other two names and more details on the project. Since Alia also has a jam-packed schedule with many projects lineup, they are going to work on the film in 2022. Exact timelines of the schedule will be revealed towards the end of this year.
Farhan, meanwhile, has acting commitments, including Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed Toofan. He will start filming for the Rakesh Sharma biopic titled Saare Jahan Se Acha by the second half of this year.
