American film production company, Focus Features, has set the stage for the highly anticipated release of Back to Black, the biopic of the iconic English singer and songwriter, Amy Winehouse. On Friday, the first official trailer for the film that documents Winwhouse’s turbulent life and times was unveiled.
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, renowned for her work on Fifty Shades of Grey, and starring the promising British actress Marisa Abela as the late Winehouse, the film promises an intimate glimpse into the short yet stratospheric life of the celebrated artist. Winehouse tragically passed away at the age of 27 in 2011 due to accidental alcohol poisoning.
Back to Black is set to hit theatres in the UK and Ireland on April 12, followed by a US release via Focus Features on May 17.
