Bhakshak Star Bhumi Pednekar Says She Watched Ranbir Kapoor's Animal: 'I Don't Like...'
Bhumi said that while she has watched Ranbir's Animal, she doesn't like hyper-masculine films.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal was released in December last year amid much anticipation. The film became an instant hit and went on to do massive business at the box office. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial film became one of the highest-grossing films of 2023. However, the film did not sit well with a section of people. Now, Bhumi Pednekar has reacted to the film.

Speaking to The Lallantop, Bhumi Pednekar said, “I watched Animal. Truly, I don’t like hyper-masculine films, and that’s not for just now, even earlier I never liked them. Even in Hollywood, the action films… I like watching rom-coms, those kind of films I really enjoy.”

“I genuinely believe that a film is a filmmaker’s self-expression, and that is very important. But as an audience, what you learn from that self-expression, that is the challenge,” she added.

Earlier, Ranbir’s Wake Up Sid co-star Konkona Sen Sharma revealed that she has not watched it since it’s not her “type” of film. “From what I understand and I may be mistaken, I’ve not watched ‘Animal’ because I don’t feel it’s my kind of film. I haven’t been drawn to the film even from the reviews and things. Also, I’m aware of his previous work and he stands by that work, the director, and where a certain violence has been made acceptable in relationships and that is not what I stand for. Now, if it’s done very well, I don’t mind watching it. But that’s not what I’ve heard, and I don’t think I’m the target audience anyway. Millions of people are watching it, so it’s doing very well and they don’t need me,” she had said.

As for Bhumi Pednekar, her latest film, Bhakshak, has been released on Netflix today. The actress has been actively promoting the film, leaving no stone unturned to ensure that it is a hit. The film has received decent reviews. News18’s review of the film read, “Bhumi Pednekar is fantastic as a journalist in a decrepit Bihar town. As Vaishali Singh, married for six years, she is under pressure from her sister and brother-in-law to have a child. Her husband is easygoing and lets his wife work, a journalistic passion that translates into breaking stories about society’s underbelly.”
