The much-awaited Coldplay concert in Mumbai, set for January 2025, has been overshadowed by allegations of ticketing scams. As millions of fans rushed to secure tickets for the limited shows, complaints of black marketing and unauthorised resale surfaced. Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has launched an investigation, summoning key officials from BookMyShow, the official ticketing partner for the event.
BookMyShow COO Questioned
Anil Makhija, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BookMyShow, recorded his statement with the EOW on Monday, September 30, 2024. This followed a complaint by an advocate alleging black marketing of Coldplay tickets. The police had earlier summoned BookMyShow’s CEO, Ashish Hemrajani, who did not appear.
The investigation is focusing on the possibility that unauthorised platforms are reselling tickets at inflated prices, depriving genuine fans of access.
BookMyShow Denies Involvement
BookMyShow, in an official statement, denied any connection to unauthorised resale platforms. The company disclosed that 13 million fans were logged in to buy tickets when sales opened on September 22. Despite capping purchases at four tickets per user and adding a third show due to “unprecedented demand,” tickets quickly sold out, leaving many frustrated.
The company stated, “It came to our notice that unauthorised platforms are listing tickets for resale, which we vehemently oppose. We have no association with platforms like Viagogo and Gigsberg.”
“Scalping and black marketing of tickets is strictly condemned and punishable by law in India and BookMyShow vehemently opposes this practice. We have not only filed a complaint with the police authorities but are also proactively working with them to provide complete support in the investigation of this matter in any manner that may be required. To our consumers, we would like to reiterate that any tickets bought from unauthorised sources will be at their own risk and may likely be invalid or fake tickets.”
Action Against Black Marketing
BookMyShow has filed a formal complaint with the police and is working closely with authorities to investigate the matter. The company warned consumers about the risks of purchasing tickets from unauthorised sources, which may be invalid or fake.

Coldplay’s “Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025” will take place at DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18, 19 and 21, 2025. Fans are eagerly awaiting the performances despite the ticketing controversy.
