A fresh report suggests that Ayan Mukerji is likely to direct Dhoom 4, starring Ranbir Kapoor. Mukerji, who is currently collaborating with Yash Raj Films on War 2—featuring Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR, and Kiara Advani—is rumored to be the frontrunner to helm the highly anticipated fourth installment of the Dhoom franchise, which has already generated a lot of buzz among fans.
According to reports, Vijay Krishna Acharya, who was the writer for Dhoom 1 and 2 and directed Dhoom 3, is not expected to return for Dhoom 4. Instead, Yash Raj Films is reportedly impressed with Mukerji’s work on War 2 and sees him as the ideal choice for the reboot.
A previous report from Bollywood Hungama hinted that Aditya Chopra, head of Yash Raj Films, is thrilled with the footage from War 2 and has informally conveyed his desire for Mukerji to take the reins for Dhoom 4. While Mukerji is enthusiastic about the opportunity, he has requested time to focus on completing War 2 before discussing his commitments to Brahmastra and Dhoom 4. He is set to have discussions with Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Jio Studios regarding the future of Brahmastra.
Aditya Chopra is reportedly keen to ensure that Dhoom 4 launches with the right cast and director, acknowledging the franchise’s significance. Despite his focus on a series of spy films, Chopra understands the value of Dhoom and wants to time its release perfectly.
On the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor has a packed schedule. He recently completed filming the first part of Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated Ramayana, co-starring Sai Pallavi. Kapoor is set to start work on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Love and War with Vicky Kaushal in October 2024, with Alia Bhatt joining the project in December. Additionally, Kapoor is involved in Animal Park, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, as well as a romantic film with his wife, Alia Bhatt.
