The ace Tamil director has recently belted out a blockbuster starring Shah Rukh Khan. Can you guess his name? Apart from gaining recognition as a director, he is a renowned screenwriter and film producer. At the mere age of 19, he assisted S Shankar in Enthiran and Nanban, a remake of the Hindi blockbuster 3 Idiots. His short film Mugaputhagam, which was released in 2011, received a positive response from the public. He finally donned the director’s hat with Raja Rani in 2013. It earned him his award as Best Debut Director at the Vijay Awards and the Tamil Nadu State Award for Best Dialogue Writer. He is also one of the highest-paid directors in India. The film starred ace actors like Nayanthara, Arya, Jai, Nazriya Nazim and Sathyaraj.

In 2016, Atlee directed Theri, a thriller drama starring Thalapathy Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson. He once again collaborated with Thalapathy Vijay, for Mersal and Bigil and they emerged to be a huge hit at the box office and even won several accolades. In 2023, he delivered a blockbuster with Shah Rukh Khan, Jawan. It also starred Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Sanjay Dutt, Vijay Sethupathi and others. It was Atlee’s highest-grossing release.

Atlee is currently gearing up for the release of yet another Hindi action drama titled Baby John. It is directed by Kalees and Atlee has penned the film. It will see Varun Dhawan in the titular role along with Keerthy Suresh, who will mark her debut in Bollywood, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff and Sanya Malhotra. The film is said to be a remake of Theri. Baby John will mark Varun Dhawan’s 18th project in the lead. Principal photography began in August 2023 and was wrapped up by April end. The film is slated to hit the theatres on May 31.
