Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie headlined by Rajinikanth has courted controversy reportedly due to a notice served to the makers by the composer Ilaiyaraaja. Ilaiyaraaja has sent a notice to Sun TV for the unauthorised use of his music in the Coolie’s teaser.
As per reports, the veteran composer has raised objections over the recreated version of his song Vaa Vaa Pakkam Vaa. This song is from the director Bharathiraja’s film titled Thanga Magan. SP Balasubrahmanyam and Vani Jairam have rendered vocals to this track penned by Muthulingam. The notice mentioned that creating a recreated version of this track is a crime under the Copyright Act, of 1957.
Apart from this news, another report associated with Coolie dominated the headlines on social media a few days back. The opinions of a journalist named ValaiPechu Anthanan surfaced on the internet. He mentioned that earlier, movies with the title Coolie have suffered with some of the problematic results. Anthanan recounted that Coolie starring actor R Sarathkumar was a failure at the box office.
Meanwhile, according to him, the one starring Amitabh Bachchan had suffered on account of Big B’s near-to-fatal accident. Amitabh Bachchan had to be operated on due to multiple surgeries for 2 months due to this accident on Coolie’s sets while filming for the fight sequence. Hence, keeping these two unfortunate instances in mind, Lokesh and his team should be more careful while shooting for their film Coolie.
Coming back to Rajinikanth starrer Coolie, there are speculations that he has charged a staggering Rs 260-280 crore for this film. These reports have been published by KoiMoi and DNA India and have not been confirmed by News 18. The director and producers of this film have also not verified the claim.
On April 22, Lokesh unveiled the Coolie title teaser on Youtube. The teaser video starts with many gold smugglers checking on their inventory of bars, watches, jewellery and other items. Soon, the Jailer actor breaks into their lair and beats them using a chain made of gold watches. The video concludes with the veteran actor whistling Tujhe Dekha Toh Ye Jaana Sanam from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in a combination of gold and black.
The teaser of this film has garnered more than 1 crore views and is still counting.
