Re-releasing films is a new trend in the Indian cinema industry. Many films have already been re-released including in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and other languages. The films which make it to the list of re-releases are often classic hits and the favourite films of the audience. These old films are remastered and released with a new-age visual and audio experience. Among these, Mohanlal and Mammootty films have won the most applause. Now, there are reports that an old Malayalam movie is getting ready for re-release after 44 years. Malayali’s all-time action star Jayan’s film ‘Meen’ is getting ready for re-release.
Jayan’s Meen was directed by IV Sasi. It was written by T Damodran. Apart from Jayan, the film also stars Madhu, Seema, Srividya, Adoor Bhasi, Jose, Sankaradi, Shubha, Ambika, Balan K Nair and Meena in the prominent roles. The film was released in 1980. Meen reaches the audience with 2k visuals and 5.1 Dolby Atmos sound. The film is expected to be re-released in February 2025. The remastering of the film is going on in Chennai and Mumbai. The songs in Meen are composed by G Devarajan and are still loved by Malayalees. The film is being re-released by Roshika Enterprises.
The film follows the story of a fisherman. He returns to his village and marries another woman after he is unable to find his lover. However, after many years, his lover’s son seeks revenge, assuming that he has deserted his mother. The film is full of intense action and emotions. The fans are eagerly waiting for one of the best films of their favourite action star Jayan.
Jayan was a popular actor in Malayalam films during the 1970s and 80s. He starred in over 150 Malayalam films, primarily as an action star. In 2010 he was referred to as the first and most successful action hero of Malayalam cinema. Jayan starrer Sarapancharam broke all box-office records in 1979. The box office records were broken by another Jayan film, Angadi in the following year.
Jayan died in an accident on the set of the movie Koliakkam at the age of 41. As per reports, Jayan was performing a stunt that involved him boarding an airborne Bell 47 from a moving motorbike driven by Sukumaran.
