Starring Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), was released on this day in 1995. The Aditya Chopra directorial turned 29 today. This anniversary coincides with Karwa Chauth. As the movie turns 29, Kajol took to her social media to share a note.
Taking to her Instagram, Kajol shared a picture from DDLJ and wrote, “29 years to the OG of Karva Chauth… wishing everyone a very hungry and successful Karva Chauth… maybe go to Maratha mandir and see the film… #29yearsofddlj #ddlj.” Her caption took note of how the movie changed Karwa Chauth in the country. In the Karwa Chauth scene of the film, Shah Rukh Khan’s Raj fasted for Kajol’s Simran. This scene went on to become a pivotal part of pop culture and even prompted men to fast for their wives.

Upon its release, DDLJ was the highest-grossing Indian film of 1995. The movie fetched more than Rs 100 crore at the box office. It went on to become a cult classic and it continues to run at Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir. Apart from Khan and Kajol, the movie boasted an ensemble cast that included Anupam Kher, Farida Jalal, Amrish Puri, Satish Shah, Mandira Bedi, Karan Johar, and Anaita Shroff Adajania among others. The film also marked the third collaboration between Khan and Kajol after Baazigar and Karan Arjun.
