Rishab Shetty’s Kantara, released in 2022, was a massive success at the box office and catapulted him to national fame. Audiences were enamoured by Kantara’s depiction of the traditional Bhootha Kola and animist spirit worship practised in coastal Kannada. Fans are now eagerly waiting for the announced prequel to the film, titled Kantara: Chapter 1. While making the two Kanatara films, Rishab Shetty also produced a movie named Laughing Buddha, which has had a long production process.
Produced by Rishab Shetty, Laughing Buddha is directed by Bharath Raj and has Rishab’s friend Pramod Shetty playing the role of a policeman. Teju Belawadi plays the female lead. The filming of the film wrapped up in July last year but the post-production reportedly is taking more time than expected. Just like how Rishab Shetty explored myths and folklore with Kantara, the actor and producer is all set to explore the world of police through Laughing Buddha.
The film’s team, led by its producer Rishab Shetty, conveyed their warm regards to the Karnataka Police Department on Police Flag Day, praising the brave and resilient officers who embody courage and determination. A special video and photos from the making of the film were shown to the cops of the Karnataka police department.
Speaking on the occasion of Police Flag Day, Rishab said that all fields have their pros and cons. He said that while films with narratives around cops primarily portray their professional lives, their personal lives are generally not touched upon. According to him, in Laughing Buddha, director Bharath Raj has attempted to touch upon the personal lives of cops, albeit with a touch of humour.
He said that post-production on Laughing Buddha is complete and he has even watched the film and is sure audiences will like it, As far as its release date is concerned, Rishab Shetty intends to release the film post the Lok Sabha elections, sometime in July.
