The latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show was the most entertaining yet, as per netizens. It featured Diljit Dosanjh, Parineeti Chopra and Imtiaz Ali promoting their new film, Amar Singh Chamkila. Kapil Sharma recently shared a behind-the-scenes video where he revealed missing a call from AR Rahman, who wanted him to be a part of the film. Kapil thought Rahman was just being friendly.
In the behind-the-scenes clip, Kapil revealed he missed a call from AR Rahman, the film’s composer, because he was overseas. Kapil recalled the incident, saying, “I met Rahman sir one day and he said, ‘I called you for Chamkila.’ I think he wanted me to sing a song or something. I thought he was just sweet talking with me.”
Imtiaz said Rahman had talked about Kapil’s singing. Kapil said, “He said this to me in a serious manner. I said, ‘Sir we were overseas and which is why we couldn’t speak to each other.’” Regretting missing the opportunity to work with AR Rahman, Kapil said, “I felt really bad, I cried the whole night. It was unfortunate.” Imtiaz then added, “But Rahman sir said that if Diljit couldn’t do this film, we had only one more choice which was you.”
Meanwhile, News18 gave the film 3.5/5 stars. The review of the film read, “Diljit delivers a stupendous act as the protagonist. The character of Amar Singh Chamkila is tailor-made for him and he pours his heart out into it. His hard work is palpable and yet his performance is effortless. Watching him become Chamkila and sing his songs will fill your heart up with unadulterated joy. Even in some heavy-weight scenes, he brings a rare restraint to the fore and renders a whole new layer of poise. It, inarguably, is his career-best performance. And somewhere in the middle, you will see him becoming one with Chamkila and very soon, you won’t be able to separate these forces that forever changed the music industry of Punjab.”
