The 70th National Film Awards kickstarted at the Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi on October 8. Karan Johar marked his presence at the award ceremony. He attended the ceremony with Ayan Mukerji for Brahmastra. Their appearance refuted rumours of a fallout that had come up on social media last year.
At the National Film Awards, Brahmastra won in several categories. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar, the movie won the Best Film in AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects Gaming and Comic), and the Best VFX Film Award. Johar spoke to the media and mentioned how he attended the event to show his support to the team. He said, “I’m truly honored and humbled to be here. I can’t take credit for the special VFX and all as it’s Ayan Mukerji’s vision and effort. This project is his brainchild, and I’m simply here to support my team and stand by them with gratitude.”
Johar also posed with Mukerji at the National Film Awards. It was speculated that the two had a fallout after Mukerji took Brahmastra to another studio. However, both of them have not spoken up about their alleged fallout as of now.
The awards were revealed by a distinguished jury featuring Rahul Rawail as Chairperson of the Feature Film Jury, Nila Madhab Panda leading the Non-Feature Film Jury, and Gangadhar Mudalair overseeing the Best Writing on Cinema Jury.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, Brahmastra also featured Mouni Roy, Amitabh Bachchan, Dimple Kapadia, and Nagarjuna Akkineni in key roles. As shared by Mukerji, the film has been conceptualized as a three-part series. Reports mention that Mukerji will start working on Brahmastra 2 once he has wrapped up Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer War 2.
