The Malayalam film Manjummel Boys achieved significant recognition at the KinoBravo International Film Festival held in Russia, where it was awarded the Best Music award. This esteemed accolade was awarded to the talented composer Sushin Shyam, who created the film’s captivating score.
Director Chidambaram S Poduval had the honour of accepting the award on behalf of the entire film team, reflecting their hard work and dedication to this impactful project. He said that the Russian audience had tears in their eyes after watching Manjummel Boys and many audience even hugged and congratulated him after the screening.
Similar to its reception in India, Manjummel Boys has also been warmly embraced in Russia. Shawn Antony, the film’s producer remarked that the narrative that began in their homeland has now made its way to KinoBravo in Sochi, marking a proud journey for us.
Notably, Manjummel Boys is the first Malayalam film to participate in the KinoBravo Film Festival and stands out as the sole Indian film in the competition category this year, further highlighting its significance and impact on the international stage.
Released in February 2024, Manjummel Boys has emerged as the highest-grossing film in Malayalam cinema. The movie has achieved remarkable box office success, surpassing the impressive milestone of two hundred crores. Produced by Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shawn Antony under the esteemed banner of Parava Films, the film was masterfully directed by Chidambaram, contributing to its widespread acclaim and popularity among audiences.
Manjummel Boys is inspired by the Guna Caves rescue that took place in 2006. It revolves around a group of friends from a small neighbourhood called Manjummel in Kochi who plan a vacation in Kodaikanal. Their trip takes a dramatic turn when one of them gets trapped in the Guna Caves.
