Fans of House of the Dragon will be thrilled to learn that the highly anticipated second season of the hit HBO series is set to premiere in June. The announcement was made by Warner Bros. Discovery streaming and gaming chief J.B. Perrette during an interview at Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media, and Telecom conference, as per Variety. While an exact premiere date has not been revealed, Perrette’s announcement provides the most specific information about the release window to date. HBO chief Casey Bloys had previously hinted at an “early summer" release in November, and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav reportedly mentioned a release in the next quarter during the company’s Q4 earnings call on February 23.
House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood and tells the story of the Targaryen dynasty in the fictional land of Westeros. The series is set nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and focuses on the Targaryens’ rule after uniting the Seven Kingdoms.
In the upcoming second season, audiences can anticipate the return of several familiar actors, such as Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham. Joining the cast are new members Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, Freddie Fox, and Simon Russell Beale.
Viewers got a glimpse of what’s in store for the upcoming season with the release of the first teaser in December 2023. The teaser was packed with thrilling scenes showcasing the escalating tensions between the Targaryens and the Hightowers.

The first season of House of the Dragon aired from August 21 to October 23, 2022, and consisted of 10 episodes. The show was renewed for a second season just a week after its premiere, thanks to its record-breaking ratings for HBO.
Filming for the second season began at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studios on April 11, 2023. Despite the Writers Guild of America strike and the SAG-AFTRA strike, which occurred during filming, production was not affected as the scripts had been completed beforehand.
