The makers of Mari Selvaraj’s next directorial, Vaazhai, released the second single, Oru Oorula Raja, on Monday. The video of this slow number is reminiscent of Kanda Vara Sollunga from the director’s previous film, Karnan, starring Dhanush. Oru Oorula Raja, composed and sung by Santhosh Narayanan with lyrics by Mari Selvaraj, tells the story from the perspective of a character named Raja (whose identity is not yet revealed), expressing his struggles and hardships through the song. Much of the song has been shot in black and white, giving it a vintage feeling.
Earlier, the makers had released Thenkizhakku, the first single, sung by Dhee with lyrics by Yugabharathi. The song Thenkizhakku is sung by Dhee, with lyrics penned by Yugabharathi and music composed by Santhosh Narayanan. This melodic number is accompanied by a lyrical video that features visuals from the film.
Vaazhai has been made under the banners Disney+ Hotstar, Navvi Studios and Farmer’s Master Plan Production, with Red Giant Movies releasing it. Given the OTT platform’s association with the project, it can be deduced that the streaming rights are also held by Disney+Hotstar. Actors Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, Janaki, and others form the ensemble cast. Mari Selvaraj and Divya Mari Selvaraj are producing the film. The technical crew includes cinematographer Theni Eswar and editor Suriya Pradhaman.
Mari Selvaraj’s previous directorial venture was Maamannan, which featured prominent roles played by Udhayanidhi Stalin, Keerthy Suresh, Vadivelu and Fahadh Faasil. Mari Selvaraj is currently working on a kabaddi-themed sports film titled Bison, featuring actor Dhruv Vikram.
The cast includes Anupama Parameswaran, Lal, Pasupathy, Kalaiyarasan, Rajisha Vijayan, and others. The team recently finished the first schedule of shooting. The film is being produced by Applause Entertainment and Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Productions, marking the second collaboration between Ranjith and Selvaraj after Pariyerum Perumal.
