Veteran actor Ranjeet became a household name after he played the villain in several iconic Bollywood films, especially in the 1970s and 1980s. The actor, in a recent interview, recalled what it was like in Bollywood at that time and how everyone would gather at his house in Mumbai to party.
Speaking to ANI, Ranjeet said, “My parents lived in Delhi and I lived in Juhu, so everyone would gather there in the evening. There were no inhibitions or formalities or whatever.” “Reena Roy would make paranthas, Parveen Babi would make drinks, Moushumi Chatterjee would make fish, Neetu Kapoor would make bhindi, it used to be that kind of atmosphere,” he said.
Ranjeet added, “Name any hero and he was there.” Ranjeet said that the likes of Sunil Dutt, Raaj Kumar, Sanjay Khan, Feroz Khan, Dharmendra, and Shatrughan Sinha, would all attend these parties at his home. “People like Rajesh Khanna would drink one-two bottles in a night,” he said.
Ranjeet shared that in those days, he used to work multiple shifts in a day, and when he would come back home, the party have already started in full fervour. “I was blessed. I believe that the house that welcomes guests is blessed by god. I had enough space so I would entertain people. There was enough staff also,” he said.
He was then asked how everyone would work the next day after partying hard. Ranjeet said, “The heroes wouldn’t wake up before 2 pm. For a 10 am shift, all these heroes would come at lunchtime, have lunch and then start shooting.” He mentioned that this was one of the main reasons why he worked in multiple films. This would allow him to travel from one set to another and finish his work. He said that he then didn’t have to sit around and wait for the hero to show up to work.
