Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, once a beloved couple in the South Indian film industry, ended their four-year marriage in 2021. Now, Chaitanya has moved on, getting engaged to actress Sobhita Dhulipala in an intimate ceremony on August 8 in Hyderabad. The engagement was confirmed by Chaitanya’s father, veteran actor Nagarjuna, who shared the news on X (formerly Twitter).
The news of Chaitanya’s engagement quickly became a hot topic among fans, particularly those loyal to Samantha. After the couple’s split, Chaitanya had meticulously deleted all photos featuring Samantha from his Instagram account, leaving only the promotional posters of their film Majili. However, one picture of Samantha managed to escape this purge—a snapshot of the two standing beside a race car, which Chaitanya had posted in 2018 with the caption, “Throw back… Mrs and the girlfriend.”
The post did not go unnoticed by Samantha’s ardent fans. In light of Chaitanya’s engagement, they flooded the comment section of this post, demanding that he delete this last remnant of his past with Samantha. One fan questioned, “You deleted all pictures of Sam and unfollowed her on Instagram and Twitter. Why didn’t you delete this one?” Another echoed the sentiment, “Sam deserves better, delete the post.” The comments section was filled with similar sentiments, with fans expressing their displeasure over the lingering photo.
However, not all comments were critical. Some fans of Chaitanya defended him, pointing out the unnecessary intrusion into his personal life. One supporter wrote, “Why’s everyone talking like they’ve experienced divorce? They dealt with it with maturity and don’t need our inputs.”
Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala have been dating since 2022, though rumours of their relationship only surfaced in 2023 when they were spotted together on various vacations. The couple has remained tight-lipped about their relationship, choosing to keep their private life out of the spotlight.
On the work front, Chaitanya is set to play a fisherman from Srikakulam in the upcoming film Thandel, while Sobhita will soon be seen in Sitara. Fans of both actors eagerly await their performances, even as the chatter around their personal lives continues.
