Actor and choreographer Shantanu Maheshwari recently won Global Dance Visual competition and also judged Global Dance Supreme event. In a freewheeling chat, he shared his views about the importance of international recognition as a dancer.
Shantanu said, “You need to have exposure from different competitions to be able to grasp and understand the kind of exposure you get on international platform. International exposure opens up your thought process but at the same time it is important to be prepared to absorb that.”
He further said, “In India, we have a lot of potential but we lack when it comes to infrastructure and training. But I am glad that the scenario is changing. If more events like Vivid Shuffle keeps happening, I think we will be able to give platform to the raw talent who will be representing India in future. A platform to showcase and train them.”
Adding his experience as a participant and judge on international platform, he said, “Both the experiences were very different. Something I had not imagined. They both have different charm and learning experiences. It is great to be now approached by different organisers.”
Shantanu’s acting debut show Dil Dosti Dance (D3) was very popular among the youngsters. However, he did not appear in many fiction shows post the show. He said, “I have participated in three reality shows and I have featured in three fiction shows, so I am kind of trying to maintain the balance (laughs).”
Apart from dance reality shows, Shantanu had also participated in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 8, where he emerged as the winner.
Looking back at his journey so far in the industry, he said, “I have been lucky enough to be able to adapt to the industry. In this industry you cannot really predict where you will be in next five years. If you are working hard you will be able to survive. I am very happy about the exposure, the shows I have been part of and I am very proud about all the aspects.”
