Mumbai witnessed heavy rain and dust storms on Monday bringing respite to the locals. Although the sudden change in weather offered a soothing experience to many, a tragic development was reported from Ghatkopar. At least 14 people were killed and more than 70 others injured after a 100-foot tall billboard collapsed in the area. The illegal hoarding fell on a petrol pump at the Cheddanagar Junction.

The unfortunate incident garnered attention from Bollywood, with celebrities reacting to the matter. Actor Vijay Verma and Alia Bhatt’s mother Soni Razdan expressed shock at the billboard collapse accident.

What Vijay Verma And Soni Razdan Said

Soon, Vijay Varma shared his concern for the people affected by the incident on his Instagram Stories. He posted a video of the accident and noted, “Oh No.” Soni Razdan also reacted to the mishap. Taking to the comment box of a post shared by journalist Faye D’Souza, she stated, “Terrible.”

Following the incident, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the spot to rescue the people trapped under the debris. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde declared Rs 5 lakh compensation for the kin of the deceased.

The adverse weather conditions also affected flight operations at Mumbai airport, while train services were delayed. Traffic movement was hit at Pooja Junction (Wadala) North Bound and Freeway Tunnel Trombay South due to the fall of the hoarding.

Earlier, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert for several parts of the city for May 13. The weather department had warned of heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds, especially in Thane and Raigad districts.

Taking about Vijay Varma’s latest projects, the actor last appeared in Homi Adajania’s Murder Mubarak. The film, which hit theatres on March 15, stars Karisma Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan and Pankaj Tripathi in prominent roles.
