Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah fame Gurucharan Singh has opened up about his disappearance for the first time. In a recent interview, Singh revealed that he went on a spiritual journey in April this year and had no plans of coming back. The actor further clarified that his disappearance wasn’t a publicity stunt and shared that he returned home only because ‘god gave me a sign’.
Gurucharan Singh: ‘I Had No Plans of Coming Back’
“I have always been spiritual because of my parents and at this point in life when I was feeling low, I turned towards God. I went on a spiritual journey and had no plans of coming back. But God gave me a sign and that made me return home,” Gurucharan Singh told the Bombay Times.
Gurucharan Singh: ‘Disappearance Was Not a Publicity Stunt’
“Many people think I planned my disappearance for publicity, but that’s not true. If I wanted publicity, I could have given interviews to talk about the pending dues for my work in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. I could have used social media to do that, but I didn’t. Even after coming back home, I didn’t give any interviews, but now I am speaking up because I want to clarify certain things that people are saying about me,” the actor added.
When Did Gurucharan Singh Went Missing?
Gurucharan Singh went missing on April 22 this year but returned home in New Delhi after 26 days. Singh was interrogated by Delhi Police officials following which it was discovered that he had left home to be on a religious journey. Police officials had said that Gurucharan visited Gurudwaras in Amritsar and Ludhiana ever since he was reported “missing” but he later realised that he should return home.
Gurcharan Singh played the role of Roshan Singh Sodhi — a fun-loving man who is always in party mode and never shies away from expressing love for his wife. He was one of the popular characters on the show, and also a founding cast member. Gurcharan, however, left the show in 2013 only to return next year due to public demand. After his exit in 2020, he was replaced by actor Balwinder Singh Suri.
