An evergreen song of superstar Aamir Khan that has stayed with the audience for 36 years is Papa Kehte Hain from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. It was sung by Udit Narayan. Now, there is a new version that is grabbing everyone’s attention. The latest version can be heard in the upcoming biopic Srikanth, which stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead role. At the launch of the song on Monday, Aamir Khan and Udit Narayan reunited and reminisced about the original song. Udit Narayan recalled how nervous he was when he first met Aamir Khan, 36 years ago. Speaking at the event, Udit Narayan said, “I want to congratulate the entire Srikanth team and our superstar. Aamir and I have been taken back to the old days. It’s been 36 years since the original song was released and I can’t believe you guys still remember the song.”
Udit Narayan recalled how he was initially scared and doubted that Papa Kehte Hain would work. He said, “36 years ago, they introduced me to Aamir and told me to sing a song for him. I was scared and was ready to go back home if the song didn’t work.” Aamir Khan shared that Udit looked at him and must have thought, “Yeh actor hai? (He is the actors?)”
Aamir Khan also said that he was excited about Srikanth’s Papa Kehte Hain and thanked the team for remaking the song. He said, “Yaadein taaza hogayi (Memories are flooding back). I remember Nasir saab, Mansoor and others. It evokes such wonderful emotions in us.”
Srikanth also stars Alaya F, Jyotika and Sharad Kelkar, among others. In the film, Rajkummar plays the role of a visually impaired industrialist, Srikanth Bolla. The song gives a glimpse into Srikanth’s journey, from his birth to his rise to becoming a successful entrepreneur. During the mega launch in Mumbai, Aamir Khan was seen getting emotional as a visually impaired band took to the stage to perform the new version of the iconic track.
