Pakistani-turned-Indian artist Adnan Sami made major headlines a few years back due to his dramatic physical transformation, losing oodles of weight. Although initially from Pakistan, his heart has always been with India. In 2016, Adnan Sami obtained Indian citizenship, and since then, he and his family have resided in Mumbai.

Interestingly, the Pakistani singer was born on India’s Independence Day. Adnan Sami was born on August 15, 1971, in London. From a young age, he had a deep love for music. He completed his schooling in London, and during his holidays in India, he studied music under Pandit Shivkumar Sharma.

When Adnan was 10 years old, he had the fortunate opportunity to meet two legendary figures in the Indian music industry, Asha Bhosle and RD Burman, during their visit to London. Recognising his talent and potential, Asha Bhosle gave him the chance to compose a song, a significant break that would change the trajectory of his career. This opportunity not only showcased his musical abilities but also established him as a promising composer in the industry.

The name of that song was Na Nazar Milao was a super hit and its popularity took Adnan Sami to new heights in the industry. After that, a Pepsi ad in 2002 gave Adnan Sami immense popularity in the industry. He was the first Pakistani star who got such popularity in India and the Indian audience gave him immense love, a rare occurrence due to the animosity between the two nations.

While talking to BBC, the singer had said that he felt threatened in Pakistan. He was more worried about his family’s safety than his own. After a long battle with the Pakistani government, Adnan Sami filed a petition for Indian citizenship and in 2016 he became an Indian citizen.
