There was a time when no matter what the genre of a film was, it would become a hit just because of Akshay Kumar. The prolific actor has showcased his versatility by playing a romantic actor, and action hero and has played fun roles with apt comedic timing. His charming on-screen persona, coupled with his dancing and fighting skills makes him an all-rounder actor and also one of the most bankable ones in the industry. On September 9, the actor celebrated his 57th birthday. On this occasion, let’s take a glimpse into his eventful journey from scratch to an actor.
Akshay Kumar is one of the biggest stars of the Indian Cinema industry who can pull the crowd to the theatres with his performances. Despite facing a few shortcomings, he continues working hard. Did you know that once when he was in school, his father, in a fit of anger, almost raised his hand on Akshay Kumar but stopped? Instead, he asked him, “Do something. Study something. What will you do in future?” To this the now-star responded, “I will become a hero” and now he is one of the most successful ones.
In an interview, Akshay Kumar shared that he used to often score less marks in school. Also, as a child, he had a knack to stand out from the crowd from a young age. He was always interested in sports and played everything from volleyball to cricket. However, his father would always remind him to focus on his studies and get good scores. The Khiladi actor was more interested in Karate, so he convinced his father and with great difficulty, he was sent to Bangkok for training. In Bangkok, he trained for Karate for five years. Later, he worked in several major cities and countries and reportedly, even tried his hand at working in Kundan Jewellery in Delhi.
He began teaching martial arts to kids in Mumbai and earned about Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 a month. During this time, he received an officer for modelling and soon, from earning peanuts, he received a cheque for Rs 21,000 for a day for a photoshoot. Finally, after some ups and downs, his career took off. His discipline in life and his dedication to his craft have made him successful.
In his illustrative career of about 30 years, he has worked in about 150 films and even received awards. His association with the superhit Khiladi franchise earned him the name, Khiladi Kumar.
