Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have been in the spotlight since they arrived separately at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai on July 12. Fuelling further speculation, Abhishek recently liked an Instagram post discussing the difficulties of divorce, prompting fans to question the state of their marriage. Amid these rumours, a throwback interview with Jaya Bachchan has resurfaced, shedding light on Aishwarya’s role within the Bachchan family.

Aishwarya and Abhishek’s wedding in 2007 remains one of Bollywood’s most talked-about events, marked by its exclusivity and the family’s decision to limit media access. In the same year, Jaya Bachchan appeared on Koffee with Karan and spoke fondly of her daughter-in-law. Reflecting on Aishwarya’s entry into the Bachchan household, Jaya said, “She is lovely. I love her. I have always loved her. I have never ever seen her push herself whenever we are all together. I like that quality of hers to stand behind. She is quiet. She listens and she is taking it all in. And another beautiful thing is that she has fitted in so well in the family. She knows who are our good friends.”

During the interview, Karan Johar suggested that Aishwarya could relieve Jaya of some of her burdens, to which Jaya responded with hope, “Hopefully. I am hoping that she will take a lot more than just ‘some’.” Jaya’s daughter Shweta humorously interjected, warning her mother not to overwhelm Aishwarya too quickly.

After their wedding, Aishwarya and Abhishek welcomed their daughter Aaradhya in 2011. In a 2010 Koffee with Karan appearance, Abhishek explained the intimate nature of their wedding, revealing that his ailing grandmother was a significant factor in their decision to keep the celebration private. “Did I want to invite? Did her family want to invite the whole world? Yes. Our parents, altogether, sent out a card seeking the blessings of everybody,” he said.
